TOP 5 List of Things To Bring When Moving

Maybe you’re downsizing, relocating out of state, or even moving down the street. People tend to find the experience of moving as a reason to purge the things they’ve been holding onto far too long. As a Real Estate Broker and someone who has moved several times, I feel I can speak on this topic. I’ve come up with a list of things I found should probably find their way into a moving box and not the big green bag that is going out to the trash. Moving can be a stressful experience (not so much if you have a great Realtortop 5 moving tips huntersville realty real estate lake norman area cornelius davidson charlotte, nc north carolina).

1- PHOTOGRAPHS

It is so easy to say we will get them digitalized, but few actually get around to it. To me, there is nothing quite like holding a photo to bring back a memory. Same goes with family heirlooms. Anything that you look at or hold in your hand that makes you happy, KEEP IT!

2- ELECTRONICS

Do not throw out anything without making sure it does not hold your personal information on it. I cannot stress this enough. I have a client who has the hard drives from every computer he has ever owned. Not clear, BRING IT!  aSs with cables, think ahead. If you will use it, bring it.

3-IMPORTANT PAPERS

It is easy to accumulate papers and to be unsure what to bring and what to shred. The earlier in your move or intent to move you can get your papers in order, the better. Some of the most important papers include Birth & Death Records, Marriage Licenses, Divorce Decrees, Citizenship Certificates,  Social Security Cards,  Medical Records, Tax Returns, Insurance Policies, Passports, Wills, Trusts, Power of Attorney papers, Insurance Policy paperwork, Property Deeds,  Pension and other Retirement Plans  paperwork, Investment Records, Education Records & Diplomas, Debt Payoff Letters, Military Records and Vehicle Title Records. Keep them SAFE & SPERATE from your other papers.

4- BASIC CLEAN SUPPLIES &  KITCHEN APPLIANCES

It is easy to toss out the toilet paper and cleaning supplies when you are moving, but it not a bad idea if you have room in the truck to bring these sorts of things. You would be surprised how many people move into their new home and find themselves restocking even before any of the boxes are opened. Same goes with tools and cooking appliances. When you are in the excitement of starting out in a new home you might get swept up in the excitement throw it all out. My advice. Think before you toss. Same goes for packing it up. You just might regret throwing out that cast iron pan your Grandmother gave you. You may have just moved into a new home that inspires you to hang out more in the kitchen!

5-EMERGENCY SUPPLIES AND MEDICATIONS

Bring the fire extinguishers. Same goes with medications. Whether they are your daily medication, vitamins or fever reducer for the kids, make sure you not only pack them, but make sure they are in a CLEARLY labeled box.

Moving can be a super exciting experience. By prioritizing ahead of time what you deem necessary to bring with you, can take a little stress out of things and make the actually move a seamless one!

Excellent list. I will have to put these in their own special box and make sure that I can get to them when we arrive at the new location. Thank you!
